Shiraz

In the continuation of our Fars province tour, we will reach the center of Fars province, the great city of Shiraz.

Shiraz is located in southwestern Iran which is very popular with all domestic travelers as well as foreign tourists for its historical and cultural background. Beautiful and green gardens, historical monuments and tombs of important poets such as Hafez and Saadi are only part of the charm of the city of Shiraz.

History of Shiraz

According to historical evidence, the first human settlement in the city of Shiraz dates back to the Sassanid period;

In the excavations made by Italian archaeologists in 1970, clay tablets belonging to the Elamite civilization were found where the name of the city was written.

The climate of Shiraz

Shiraz has a good, moderate and mild climate with suitable temperature in both winter and summer. The best time to travel to Shiraz is spring, especially May, when you can smell the good scents of spring orange trees in the streets. In the summer season, the city of Shiraz hosts many local tourists especially families with children to let them know the beauty and importance of this city historically and culturally.

Historical and cultural importance of Shiraz and its surroundings

Persepolis is one of the masterpieces of the Achaemenid period as a ceremonial capital and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. Pasargad, which is the tomb of Cyrus the Great, is located 130 kilometers away from Shiraz. Among other historical and popular monuments of Shiraz are: Vakil Complex (Vakil Bath, Bazaar and Mosque), the interesting gardens. Actually, one cannot travel to Shiraz without visiting the famous ones like Afifabad Garden (Golshan Garden) and Eram Garden.

Hafez

Our foremost mystic poet is Hafez who was a great 8th century poet of Iran and one of the famous orators of the world, whose sonnets are famous and special. He has a special place among Iranians for his mystical poems and many people often refer to Hafez when they are homesick or want to seek advice or consolation in time of need and on many traditional festive occasions such as Yalda night.
